SCORM is the Sharable Content Object Reference Model. The development of SCORM began as an ADL (Advanced Distributed Learning) initiative to save costs and increase efficiency in e-learning by developing common interfaces through which web-based learning content can be shared. Although SCORM is only a reference model, it is considered by many the standard for interoperability in modern e-learning.
Much of ARCLITE's research centers around applying SCORM in the context of higher education. Although SCORM provides a common interface for the exchange of learning content, it lacks some functionality that would be important in the context of higher education, such as access the student response data. Through our research we hope to extend the abilities of SCORM to do even more for higher education.
