The mission of the ARCLITE Lab of the Center for Language Studies at Brigham Young University is Advanced Research in Curriculum for Language Instruction and Technology in Education. ARCLITE was officially created in 2003, having operated for several years previously in conjunction with the National Security Education Program.
ARCLITE primarily develops electronic learning resources within the specific context of language learning, within the more general context of technology in education. We accomplish this by conducting research in the area and implementing methods for the effective and efficient distribution of learning resources within these contexts.
The team at ARCLITE consists of a wide variety of students, undergraduate and graduate, with experience ranging from programming and Web design to language teaching and pedagogy to film and video. ARCLITE often teams up with other programs on campus, including the Center for Instructional Design, the National Middle Eastern Language Resource Center, and other efforts within the Center for Language Studies as well as other language departments (to name a few). Team members also often get great experience through summer internships. Coming back to the lab after 3-4 months of hard work, they bring fresh new ideas and plenty of experience.
